In the year 1900

India first participated in the Olympic games in the year 1900 with the first Indian athlete Name Norman Pritchard winning two silver medals in the Olympics and became the first Asian nation to win an Olympic and medal.

In the year 1920

India had first participated in the Summer Olympics in 1920 and sent Indian players to participate in the Olympic games and since 1920 India has participated in the Olympic games till now.

India has also participated in the Winter Olympic Games beginning in 1964.

Total Medals

 Indian Athletes have won 29 medals in all the summer Olympics from the starting in which 9 gold,8 silver, and 12 bronze were Included. Indian Hockey team has shown very good performance in Olympic games they won 11 medals in 12 Olympic games between the year 1920 to 1980.

Gold Medals

Total 9 Gold medals have been won by Indian Olympics Players and in that 6 successive gold medals from 1928-1956.

Founders

India firstly sent a team to the Summer Olympics in 1900 but did not complete it until 1920 because of lack of resources. In 1920 Dorabji Tata and governor of Bombay George Llyod helped India to securely participate and representing India at the international Olympic game’s council. India then sent a team in 1920 comprising four athletes, two wrestlers, and two managers Sohrab bhoot and A.H. A fyzee. So, in 1920 Indian Olympics was established on international platforms with the help of some founders of India like Dorabji Tata, H.C Buck, Guru Dutt Sondhi, and Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, and many more.

Committee

In 1923 Indian Olympic committee was formed and in Feb 1924 all the Olympic games became the national games of India.

This committee was formed to select a team for the Paris summer Olympic games. In Paris Olympic 7 athletes participated from India with the manager Harry Buck. That all 7 athletes are tennis players.

Indian Olympic Association Committee formed

In 1927 Indian Olympic committee transformed into the Indian Olympic association. Its main motive was the development of Indian sports promotion on the international level and choose the best cities for the Olympic games and sent selected national players to the summer Olympics games. In 1928 India sent 7 athletes to the summer Olympics with manager Sodhi.

At this time India Hockey Federation had also been established and IHF sent its hockey team to the summer Olympics. After 1928 India had participated in many Olympics games and defeated many players of many countries like the USA, Netherlands, and Germany.

In 1948 when India was established as an independent country and the Indian Olympic Association had good outreach then India was able to send 50 sportspersons participating in many sports and representing India on the higher level each player selected by its sports federation. This team was headed by Chef-De-Mission.

Indian Hockey team won the gold medal in the 1948 summer Olympics. After becoming an independent nation, it was the first gold medal of India that was Pride of the Indian Public and for the country.

In the Year 1952

In 1952 the wrestler K.D. Jadhav won his first medal in Olympics. The Indian hockey team won 6 straight-line titles by defeating Pakistan in the summer Olympics.

In The Year 1976

In 1976 India did not win any medal and returned empty-handed. The first time since 1924. India won the last title in the 1980 summer Olympics. India did not win any medal in the next three summer Olympics after 1980.

In The Year 1996

In 1996 summer, Olympics held in Atlanta participated by Leander Paes won a bronze medal at the men’s singles tennis. This was the first Individual medal since 1952.

In The year 2000

In the 2000 Sydney Olympics karnam Malleswari, the two-time world champion won the bronze medal at the women’s 69 kg weightlifting.

In The Year 2004

In the year 2004 Rajya Vardhan Singh Rathore won the silver medal in men’s double trap shooting at Athens Olympics.

At The Year 2008

In 2008 Abhinav Bindra was the first individual to win the gold medal in the men’s 10-meter air rifle event at the Olympic games. In boxing, Vijender Singh won the first bronze medal for India in the middleweight category.

At The Year 2012

In 2012 Indian had participated with 83 players and won 6 medals for the country it was held in London.

Sushil Kumar became the first Indian player who won Multiple medals in Olympics. The first Badminton player who won a bronze medal in badminton was Saina Nehwal and Mary Kom was the first women athlete who won bronze in boxing in women’s flyweight.

At The Year 2016

In the 2016 Olympics,118 athletes participated in this session. Sakshi Malik became the first woman Indian player to win a bronze medal in the women’s wrestling 58kg category. The first and the youngest Indian women Player who won a silver medal in Badminton is P.V. Sindhu

Performance of India in Tokyo Olympic games

In these Olympic games, Indian Players are showing great Performance and representing India on a very good level.

Total 127 Players are Participating from India. A weightlifting player Mirabaichanu got the silver medal in 49 kg weightlifting and it is her first silver medal and also the first medal for India. The silver medal was won by Mirabai Chanu on the date 24th of July.

After losing the match of a semifinal game of Badminton PV Sindhu did not lose hope and win the bronze medal for India and this is the 2nd medal for India in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

 Indian Hockey Team has broken the record of 49 years in the Olympics because after 49-year the Indian Hockey team has qualified for semifinal by win quarterfinal match but could not make their place in Final.

Finally, India has won the gold medal by Neeraj Chopra in Javelin throw and this is the first gold medal for India in Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya has Won a Silver Medal In Wrestling ( 57 kg ) and a Bronze medal has won by Bajrang Punia in Wrestling ( 65 KG )

 The women’s hockey team of India has qualified for the semi-final In this Tokyo Olympics and They Lost In Semi-final but They Gave their Best Performance.

Mary Kom lost in her 16 rounds of the match but she is saying that she was not aware that she had lost her bout.

In boxing, lovlina Borgohain set her place into the boxing welterweight 69kg semifinal by which she has confirmed for a bronze medal for India.

It has been announced by an Indian Olympics Association They Sign an agreement with three Big Sponsored who are Supporting Indian players in the Olympics financially has done his agreement with JSW Group Sports Foundation and Amul.

MPL Sports Foundation has been selected as a Principal Partners Of IOA. This Foundation stands for Mobile Premier League also sponsors the Indian Team Mpl sponsor official kit for the whole team.

MPL Sports Foundation is Sponsoring worth Rs. 8 Crore to the IOA in which also included Asian Games and commonwealth games sponsorship with Olympic games. This Sponsorship will be Due till 31st Dec next year.

JSW Group will sponsor re 1 crore, this support was confirmed by Chief executive of the JSW group Parth Jindal

JSW group Industry Located in Mumbai and works in Many Numbers of fields like steel, energy, infrastructure, and cement.

Jsw Group also supports Delhi capital in the Indian Premier League and also supports the Bengaluru fan club.

Indian Dairy Company Amul has also provided sponsorship of re 1 crore to the IOA, the company had also provided Information to the IOA in the last Olympics which were held in Rio in 2016.
