Reasons for not having a website
Here are a few such reasons why so many small businesses still do not prefer to have a website
1. Relying on word of mouth
One of the reasons for small business owners do not go online or to not have a website is that they think the promotion of their business is best done through word of mouth.
Well, at first it looks logical because it is volatile, powerful, easy, and practical. But, it has even downsides also. Since your consumers are mostly from a particular area, the word of mouth has an extremely limited reach.
Even if someone gets a recommendation from a colleague, friend, or family member, people still go for a quick scan for any red flags about your products.
And with that, it doesn’t take much for one bad experience to have the opposite effect on your business. This could completely undo all the word of mouth business you have been receiving.
So relying only on word of mouth does not seem a good idea.
2. Maintaining a website is costly
Another excuse in this line is given by small business owners is that creating and maintain a website is very costly.
Well, it could have been true if this was the year 2012. But maintaining a website is very easy and cheaper than it ever was. And thus, this reason is also ruled out.
Once it goes live, even you alone can manage it. Or, if you are lacking time, you can hire an website management agency which can assist you (Like Us).
3. We are on social media. So why website?
Many small business owners claim that they do not need a website because, they have a Facebook business page, or they are on Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Though it cannot be denied that presence on social media is important for a business, relying only on social media as a substitute for the website is not a good idea.
A website provides a particular identity across the web. Social media is not about a particular niche, but a website provides you whatever niche you want.
For example, if you are running a hardware store and you have its page on Facebook.
But the question is, that how many people will look for a hardware shop on Facebook?
Besides, if you have a website, then someone can find it by searching on google as has become a trend nowadays to google anything they want to know about.
4. My industry hasn’t gone online
This will be probably the last excuse anyone can give. Though most of the industries have gone online, who knows there might be some industries which are not online.
But that does not mean that it cannot be taken online.
In-fact, it gives you more opportunities to expand your business as you won’t be having much of a competition.
Having less competition provides micro enterprises more opportunities to grow.
And besides, there is no such industry which cannot go online.
Reasons to have a website
1. It’s an online business card
Having a business website is now like the business card – a must-have for any business whether it is a small business or a large one.
Most of the consumers (almost two-third) search online even when they are looking for a local business.
You can think of your website as your business’s storefront, where you can display any or every product you have.
Though all the business who are online doesn’t succeed, but all the successul businesses do have strong online presence.
2. Make your business more professional
Having a business website makes your business look more legitimate. This works very effectively with small businesses.
It gives you another market to sell your products. People are being more and more technical nowadays than they have ever been to.
So, people are more like to use a product which they can see online.
The Internet has become like a phone directory today, so it is good to have your shop get registered here.
3.Easy to access
Customers tend to research a product before consuming it. Having an online display for your products makes it easy for customers to look into your products.
They can know all about it in just a click. And they can ask any questions about it without stepping out of their home.
An online store is opened 24*7, so it becomes comfortable for customers to look for it anytime they want.
Also, it is easy for you to know your customers as you will be collecting data about your customers. Thus, you can improve according to the demands of your customers.
This strategy could be the game changer for micro enterprises or small businesses.
4.Opportunity to grow
Doing online business can provide life-changing opportunities to those who know how to use it. First of all, you will get global access and second, it will be easy to manage.
You don’t need a big team to manage your website, you can do it alone. There is no limit on how many products you can sell online.
You can sell here whatever your audience is willing to purchase from you.
For example, Amazon was initially just a bookselling company but today, it is a company that sells almost anything you need.
